Abstract
Cervical cancer is the fourth most common malignancy among women worldwide, and though the majority of cervical cancer cases are caused by persistent high risk human papilloma virus (HR-HPV) infection, non-human papilloma virus associated cervical cancer (NHPVA CC) is now considered an independent category. However, the clinical and prognostic criteria of HPV negative cervical cancer are less clear, so this study aimed to provide more insight into the clinical and pathological characteristics of this unusual group of cervical cancers. AIM OF THE WORK: The objective of this study is to • Determine the prevalence of HPV among cases of cervical cancer at El-Shatby University Hospital. • Compare between cases of HPV-associated and HPV- independent cervical cancer regarding their clinic-pathological presentation, attributable clinical and pathological risk factors. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study was conducted on patients with cervical cancer at El-Shatby Maternity University Hospital in the three years between January 2019 and December 2021.Using p16 as a marker for HPV, we classified our cases into HPV associated cervical cancer (HPVA CC) and NHPVA CC. Clinicopathologic criteria such as age, presenting FIGO stage, lymph node status, and presenting histopathological type were compared between both groups.
