Abstract
Device implant pocket hematoma is a recognized complication after permanent pacemaker (PM) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation. Pocket hematoma is associated with local discomfort, an increased risk of infection, and may require surgical intervention or lead to lengthier hospital stays. The purpose of the study was to identify the clinical factors associated with hematoma formation after PM or ICD device implantation. Aim of the work: The study was to study the predictors of pocket hematoma formation post pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and the role of the local measures in reducing its incidence and the influence of patient comorbidities. Subjects and Methods This study will include 100 consecutive patients who will undergo implantation of a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator. RESULTS: 50 patient (50%) received local measures 50 patient (50%)not received local measures Conclusion: The use of local measures (diathermy or hydrogen peroxide) after CIED implantation decrease incidence of pocket hematoma.
