Abstract
The human male reproductive system is a series of organs located outside thebody and around the pelvic region. It consists of two testis, two epididymides, twovas deferens, two seminal vesicles, two ejaculatory ducts prostate gland, urethraand penis (Figure1). Spermatogenesis starts at puberty, when the Leydig cells inthe testes start to produce androgens under the influence of the follicle-stimulatinghormone (FSH) and the LH, which are in turn controlled by the gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) produced by the hypothalamus. (Figure2). Infertility isdefined as the inability to achieve pregnancy after 1 year of regular, unprotectedintercourse. A male factor contribution to infertility is common. Semen analysisprovides valuable information for investigating disorders and pathologies affectingthe male genital tract. Hyaluronan (HA), a critical component of the extracellularmatrix (ECM) of cumulus-oophourus with several different roles.(HA) surroundsthe human oocyte and acts as a natural spermatozoa selector. Aim of the work This study aims at comparing seminal hyaluronan level betweeninfertile and fertile males and correlating these levels with semen parameters.
