Abstract
Progranulin (PGRN) is a cysteine rich secreted protein, expressed in epithelial cells, immune cells, neurons, and adipocytes. Full length PGRN stimulates cell growth and survival and has anti-inflammatory activity. However, proteolytic cleavage of PGRN producesgranulin peptides (GRNs), some of which stimulate inflammation. Recent studies have demonstrated that activation of inflammatory process may lead to development of diabetic microangiopathy.
Aim of the work
The aim of the present study was to study the relation between serum Progranulin level and microvascular complications in subjects with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
Subjects and methods
This study included 80 subjects classified as: 20 healthy subjects as a control group, 20 diabetic patients with duration of DM less than one year and 40 diabetic patients with duration more than 5 years. Serum progranulin level was measured by ELISA technique.
