Abstract
Pesticides are broadly used in agricultural and environmental sectors as well as public health perspectives. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), pesticide is defined as any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying or controlling any pest, unwanted species of plants or animals causing harm or interfering with the production , processing, storage, transport or marketing of food, agricultural commodities, wood and wood products or animal feedstuffs or substances which may be administered to animals for control of insects, arachnids or other pests in or on their bodies. In Egypt and developing countries, there is an insufficient pesticides regulation, lack of surveillance systems, less enforcement, lack of training, and easy access to a wide variety of pesticides. Therefore the health-related issues associated with the exposure to pesticides are increasing.
Pesticide poisoning accounts for significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. The UN estimates an average of about 200,000 people die from the toxic exposure of pesticides per year across the world.
